The Global Supply Chain Management
conference is hosted by the State University of New York
College at Plattsburgh which is located along
beautiful Lake Champlain and nestled
in the Champlain Valley between the Adirondack Mountains
of New York and the Green Mountains of Vermont.
This
area known as the "North Country" is a
supply chain region, with a history of transportation and
international trade dating back 350 years. The
region is at the cross section of a north-south border
(the largest undefended border in the world) and north-south
conduits for trade. These interstate highways, waterways,
railways and, now, airways move goods between Canada’s
largest province to the East Coast, North America’s
largest population center. More and more, goods bound for
the U.S. are now shipped to Montreal and cleared through
customs in the North Country ports of entry. Over the last
four decades, the North Country has seen dramatic changes
in the clearing of international goods and transportation
networks which have transformed this region into a
hub for transportation, international trade and logistics,
all under the banner of Supply Chain Management.
